Shapeless rubber has been turned into sharp stones, salvage transformed to the memorial that in its turn appears to be a model of itself.
The Garden of rubber stones by Pyotr Belyi is a rare example of public art for our land. This is the first time that Belyi's monument left safe space of the gallery to endure natural dying under the influence of atmosphere of St. Petersburg and, for sure, not without human help. First, the material has been used by its intended purpose, in everyday life, then has been worked over by the artist, now it is returned back to the reality. Aesthetic recycling demonstrates the resistance to accelerating time of post-industrial society. The authenticity of gesture is rooted in its altruism.
Perhaps it's the most life-asserting project of Belyi. The motive of destruction, of eutrophication of ruines by trees, important for him, let the art objects to root in the roof of the building that was born itself not so long ago.
